4 month old hates EVERYTHING! HELP Im a first time mom!?
So I’ve been trying to get my four month old into baby food and rice cereal. I started with just rice cereal, mixed with some of her formula at a very watery consistency. She cried the whole feeding and spit everything out. It was warm but not hot.

So I tried bananas after a week of striking out with the rice cereal. I tried a little banana on its own and also mixed in with the cereal. She seemed to like it the first two days and then after that, back to crying and spitting it out every feeding.

The next week, I tried prunes. Again, mixed in with cereal and on its own. Same situation except this time it was only taken to the first feeding.

So this week it was peaches. Her father goes nuts for a good peach so I thought maybe she’d like it too. She screamed bloody murder the entire feeding and didnt swallow one bit.

What am I doing wrong? What can i do? i’m lost.

A 4 month old shouldn’t be eating those foods so just stop for a few months. Her body isn’t ready for that. Only give her formula.

She’s spitting it out because she’s not ready for solids.
Stop giving them to her and try again closer to 6 months.

Why rush?

The reccomended starting age is 6 months…If shes not ready(which it sounds like she isnt) then stop altogether and just give her, her milk….its really all she needs right now and will relieve the stress on both of you. She doesnt need it right now just give her time and shell be ready….Screaming bloody murder sounds like shes not ready or interested.
Good Luck.

She is not ready for solids if she is spitting everything back out again. Wait a month or so and try again…4 months is a little early(even though I was told to start by my doctor) some babies are just not ready at that age.

she’s not ready! most babies aren’t ready until about 6 months. some are ready much later than that — some aren’t ready until they’re a year or older. she should be getting all of her nutrition from breast milk or formula at this point and can continue to do so until she’s at least a year old if she’s still not ready. when babies spit things out it’s because their tongue-thrust reflex isn’t gone yet. the tongue-thrust reflex is there so that babies do not choke before they’re ready to start solids. ideally, a baby starts solids when they’re able to pick up their own food and feed it to themselves — that’s when the tongue-thrust reflex is gone, when they can feed themselves, versus being spoon fed.

Sounds like she is not ready for solids yet. I tried the cereal with my son at around 4.5 months because I thought it was the right "time frame". I was wrong, he just wasn’t ready. I am now waiting until 6 months to introduce solids. Good Luck

I am a big fan of the saying "your body will always tell you the truth but your brain will screw you every chance it gets." Your situation is a great example of this. She– operating on instinct– says "no." You are thinking you have to do it and trying to force the issue and trying to make her say "yes." Just listen to her and say "ok."

the AAP only recommends feeding babys breastmilk or formula till 6months of age, babies digestive system is not ready to disgest solids easily, it can cause them to be extremely fussy later in the day. the only reason people feed their kids sooner is cus the A] either want their kid to sleep longer(which is proven to NOT help do that) nd B] attempt to get their kid ready for solids for when they are older.

She’s not ready!! Try again at 6 months old. My daughter was also doing that in the first 2 months, I struggled. She still eats small amounts at 11 months old, but doesn’t spit it out anymore.
